Give Your Trees a Health Checkup

Trees are living investments that enhance your home's image, and create a positive first impression of beauty, prestige and practicality. Healthy trees increase in value with age, purifying our air, and saving energy by providing shade and protection from strong winds. On the other hand, poorly-maintained trees can be a significant hazard and liability.

Please review the following checklist to see if you have any trees that need further attention.

☐  Are there any dead branches in the tree?
☐  Are there detached branches hanging in the tree?
☐  Are there cavities or rotten wood along the trunk or major branches?
☐  Are there mushrooms growing at the base of the tree?
☐  Are there cracks or splits in the trunk or where major branches attach?
☐  Has the trunk developed a strong lean?
☐  Have any branches or bark fallen from the tree?
☐  Have adjacent trees fallen over or died?
☐  Do many of the major branches arise from one point on the trunk?
☐  Have roots been damaged by eroding soil, or digging trenches?
☐  Have roots been broken installing pavement, or repairing sidewalks?
☐  Has the site changed by construction, raising the soil level or installing lawns?
☐  Have the leaves prematurely developed an unusual color or size?
☐  Has the tree been topped or otherwise heavily pruned?
